About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Baltimore’s bustling Harbor East area, Darbar Indian Restaurant offers an authentic Indian dining experience that is both inviting and flavorful. As a family-owned and operated establishment specializing in halal cuisine, Darbar stands out not only for its commitment to quality but also for its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're craving an intimate dinner or a lively family meal, this gem invites you to savor classic Indian recipes crafted with passion and tradition.

Darbar's menu reads like a love letter to rich, vibrant Indian flavors. Begin your meal with crisp Vegetable Samosas or Meat Samosas—golden, delicately spiced patties bursting with peas, potatoes, or seasoned meat that create the perfect appetizer tease. The Mulligatawny Soup and Tomato Soup are comforting starters, ideal for awakening the palate.

Signature dishes such as the Chicken Tikka and Butter Chicken showcase tender, marinated chicken enveloped in creamy, fragrant sauces, each bite marrying smoky tandoori notes with nuanced spices. For those seeking boldness, the Lamb Vindaloo delivers a fiery kick balanced by a rich sauce that clings lovingly to each tender morsel of lamb. Vegetarians will find true delight in the Malai Kofta, a delicate blend of spiced vegetable balls in a creamy, indulgent sauce, or the vibrant Palak Paneer, where silky paneer cheese meets a fresh spinach purée.

The bread selection complements each dish perfectly. Favorites like the fluffy, buttery Bullet Naan and the crispy, garlic-kissed Chili Garlic Naan provide a perfect vehicle to mop up every last trace of sauce. More adventurous diners will appreciate the Keema Nan, stuffed with spiced minced lamb, or the aromatic Onion and Black Pepper Kulcha, which introduces textured layers of caramelized onions with a subtle peppery bite.

Seafood lovers are not left behind, with sumptuous options such as the Goa Fish Curry, simmered in a luxe coconut cream sauce, or the Fish Tikka Masala, where fresh fish fillets soak in a ginger, garlic, and tomato-infused sauce. The Garlic Shrimp Bhuna bursts with herbal depth, delivering a delicate yet savory seafood experience.

The dining atmosphere at Darbar is refreshingly familial and unpretentious, reflecting the care and pride of its owners. Reviewers consistently praise the genuine warmth of the staff who are both knowledgeable and passionate about guiding guests through their extensive menu, even accommodating dietary needs such as gluten-free options with thoughtful suggestions.

Customers have shared memorable experiences, highlighting not just the mouthwatering food—like the "out of this world" lamb malabari curry or the innovative tandoori salmon dish—but also the attentiveness of the family-run team. One guest notes the extra touches like complimentary drinks and the well-maintained, clean facilities, making each visit comfortable and memorable.

Darbar Indian Restaurant doesn’t just serve food; it offers a culinary journey steeped in authentic Indian tradition with a contemporary twist, promising rich spices, tender meats, fresh vegetables, and aromatic breads prepared with heart. Whether you choose to dine in or enjoy their meal delivery service, every visit promises a feast that dances on the palate and leaves lasting impressions.

For locals and visitors alike, Darbar is the go-to destination to experience the vibrant tapestry of Indian cuisine in Baltimore — a place where flavors are bold, the hospitality is heartfelt, and every dish tells a story.

Amazing food! I used to order from here a lot but it was expensive. I sat down there for the first time and it was a great experience. I’m gluten free so they told us to order something that wasn’t naan but was similar so I could enjoy it. It was pretty good!

Service was great and very friendly, complimentary drinks and dishes. I had the vegetarian biryani and it was first rate and the portion was more than even I could eat. The mango lassi was also very good. A relaxed and very enjoyable dinner in a wonderful restaurant!

Do yourself a favor and go for their curries, especially the lamb malabari. It was out of this world! The service is also super good, family run restaurant and you could see how much they care about the guests. We came from out of town and will definitely return back. Bonus points for clean toilet, stuff like that really matters!

The food was amazing. We got there as lunch was ending so service was a bit slow and it was a bit empty inside but I disregarded that in the rating for how good the food was and the menu options. The tandoori salmon was something I haven’t seen on other menus but was out of this world. We also got the aloo tikki chaat and chicken curry dish.

Came in for lunch and had a nice time. The food is pretty good, but the service is what really makes the difference here. Our server was super attentive and offered great suggestions.

Magnificant experience with lamb vindaloo, chicken Marsala, Dahl, pouree and garlic naan- but the most polite service- magical accompaniment to the experience, wine and rice pudding with honey dough dessert. Experience for savoring for a long time.

My favorite Indian restaurant in Baltimore (having tried quite a few). Have done takeaway plenty of times and dine in too. I recommend takeaway. Things I have tried: Paneer Lababdar: This is so, so good. Tastes amazing. If you want chicken version, they have Chicken Lababdar too. For chicken, we had ordered Darbar special chicken. For the breads, we had taken "Tokri" in which you get to choose any 3 breads. We took: Onion and black pepper kulcha: The one we all loved the most and gave ordered each and every time we have gone there. Garlic naan Laccha paratha For appetizers we ordered: Aloo tikki chaat: the crispy potatoes and chickpea with chutneys. We loveee the proportion of chole in it. Yummm Pakora platter: Assortment of 4 types of the dry savory chickpea battered veggies. 2 hara bhara kebabs, 2 onion bhajiyas, 2 gobhi pakora, 2 aloo pakora Dahi papdi: Prefer it for dine in as it got soggy in takeaway. Taste wise great as well. Overall, my go to restaurant for North Indian food.
